Hideki Noda started the #39 Lola-Mazda under sunny skies here in Spa. An early safety car kept the cars bunched up, headed by the two Peugeots of Minassian and Gene, while the car #12, an Oreca Judd, was moved to safety after a spin. The Aston Martin of Darren Turner was an early pit caller for tyres taking advantage of the safety car. Bruno Senna shed a tyre bringing out the safety car once more. Hideki Noda was bobbling around the top twenty as he settled into a consistent 2min 15sec pace, rising as high as sixteenth on the misfortune of others. The car has been in for fuel and tyres under the safety car, giving the KSM pit-crew an early workout.
